Day 7: 12 Days of Christmas Crafty Crap

Well, here we are…past the halfway point and I haven’t gone crazy yet.  I’m really excited to share Day 7’s project with you.  It’s my Charmed Prints QAL finish!  Gen X Quilter has hosted this great QAL and it’s finished just in time for Christmas!  Too bad I don’t have anyone in mind for this sweet little quilt, so it’s headed to the linen closet until the next friend’s baby shower rolls around.

I learned several new techniques on this quilt and was surprised just how tricky some of these blocks were to make on a miniature scale.  I’m particularly pleased with my choice of quilting, a simple zig-zagged stitch-in-the-ditch style. (Note to self: find out if this is in fact a “real” quilting method, or I did I just make that up…I am really good at making stuff up!)

Here’s the finished quilt, made mostly with fabrics from the Remix collection by Ann Kelle for Robert Kaufman fabrics:

And here’s a few close-ups of the quilt including the new-to-me technique of flange binding, my favorite part of the quilt: the star blocks from the center, and a close-up of my made-up zig-zag quilting:

I had so much fun completing this quilt-a-long!  Thanks again Gen X Quilter for putting this one together!

Speaking of quilt-a-longs, I have this crazy idea…

Have any of you seen the new book Modern Blocks by Susanne Woods?  It’s full of amazing quilt blocks and I had such fun looking at all of the blocks, I knew I just had to have one…of each.  Yep, that’s right…all 99 blocks.  The more I looked at the book, I came to the realization that I couldn’t possibly use 99 12″ finished blocks.  So, what’s a girl to do?

Make mini blocks of course!  My husband thinks I’m crazy but I want to host a QAL and I think shrinking these awesome blocks down and making a few at a time will fit the bill perfectly!  But if you’re interested in the full-size QAL, the folks over at SeamedUP have just the thing for you!

Watch for the official announcement soon!  I’m planning to start the QAL on 1/1/2012.

Until tomorrow….

Day 4: 12 Days of Christmas Crafty Crap

Well, it’s 11:04 PM and I’ve made it just under the wire by finishing my fourth project of the week!  Yay me!  Downside?  It’s dark outside, so I won’t be able to take pictures until tomorrow.

Let’s just say…it’s pretty awesome.  I finished up my Charmed Prints QAL hosted by Gen X Quilters.  Fun Ann Kelle Remix fabrics, japanese import swap fussy cuts, cute zig-zag stitch in the ditch quilting , and a fun little flange binding make for an adorable quilt.  This project has no intended recipient yet, so I guess the race is on to see which of our friends is next to have a baby.  This puppy will be sitting on a shelf, happily waiting for it’s new home.

I promise to post good pictures tomorrow (after all, I need pictures to enter to win the awesome giveaway Gen X quilters has put together), but here’s a little sneaky peaky until tomorrow:

So sorry for the crummy picture…promise to get some better ones tomorrow.  It’s going to be a busy weekend of crafty Christmas crap:

– finish free motion quilting & add binding to the quilt I’m making my parents
– piece together picnic blanket quilt top for brother & sister-in-law
– make iPad case for a co-worker (my first comissioned work)
– make roll-up placemats to match picnic blanket
– finish piecing blocks for in-laws quilt (10/20 to go)

Whew!  Just writing that list out has exhausted me…off to bed I go, surely with quilty dreams in my head.  Until tomorrow…

I’m late…I’m late…I’m late…for a very important date!

Alright, so it’s not technically Monday any more, but starting a post at 12:15 AM is well-intentioned, right?  So what’s this date I’m late for?  Well…Gen X Quilters has created this great “Charmed Prints” QAL…and is hosting a Monday linky party.  With Thanksgiving and Black Friday just a few days away, who isn’t in the mood for a party?

I have to admit, my charmed prints quilt has suffered greatly due to my type A personality.  I’ve been fussing with my fabric selections over and over again and FINALLY I’m happy with the choices.  I’m using a Remix charm pack (by Ann Kelle for Robert Kaufman) and some coordinating fabrics in orange, red, blue, and green.  I love the striped fabric for the quilt backing too!

I’m now playing a game of catch-up in an attempt to get back on track for the QAL.  Last week’s blocks were the Star block and the Greek Cross.  I was able make 3 additional star blocks tonight and kept one of my original blocks (the owl accented with orange below).

It’s better late than never, I suppose, to join a linky party.  I just need to be sure I’m not late to grab those Black Friday bargains in just a few days!  Thanks for hopping over to visit my blog.  As you can see, I’m just getting started and always looking to meet new online friends!

Happy Monday…err Tuesday!
